Market Stuff for August 31.

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow with:

muscadine grapes, Rosa Bianca Italian eggplant, sungold cherry tomatoes, sweet banana peppers, jalepenos, bell peppers, carola and fingerling potatoes, hard red winter wheat.

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

filet, NY Strip steaks, ribeye steaks, sirloin steaks, flank, skirt & flap steak, philly steak, cube steak, brisket, ground beef, stew beef, short ribs, osso bucco, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones. We should have hot dogs back in two weeks.

Ground beef special this weekend – Buy 5 lbs, get 1 lb free, and BOGO bags of soup bones. Labor Day Broth!! It’s a thing.

Bulk pricing on our beef: quarters, halves and wholes – $3.50 lb hang weight plus the cost of processing (.85/lb), and almost half-quarters – not quite 1/8 of a cow (60 lbs) for $466. This is a great savings over the regular price you pay per piece, but quarters, halves and wholes are still the best deal.

Yesterday my sister came over to help pick grapes, and then we make the pie filling to freeze for the holidays and a double batch of grape fruit crisp to eat right then and all that, so we picked 2 gallons of primo black muscadines, squoze the guts out, cooked the hulls and pulp separately with the sugar, then after all that work I screwed up the whole batch by not draining the hulls before mixing it all together. Good job!

Oh, and my horse Caratacus – you know, the one I take all the pictures of… the one that can do no wrong… the one that is the most perfect, smartest and funnest horse in the world that I trained myself and has never once even picked up a foot the wrong way? That one. We went riding on Sunday and he threw out the biggest, highest and ONLY buck EVER, sent me straight up 3 feet tumbling through the air landing on my ass. Shane said he looked back and I was literally 3 feet in the air above the saddle.  Never let go of the reins though. We were far from home and I’m not walking all the way back. I remember looking down at my horse from way up in the sky and thinking, there’s no way I’m gonna land back in that saddle.  Somehow I landed like a feather, not a bruise or anything, didn’t even feel it. Got back on and rode on like it never even happened. So weird. He doesn’t even buck when he’s goofing off out in the pasture. I’m pretty sure that was his first buck ever…at age 9. Whatever. Horses.

See you tomorrow!!

Market Stuff for August 24.

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow with:

Rosa Bianca Italian eggplant, sungold cherry tomatoes, sweet banana peppers, jalepenos, bell peppers, carola and fingerling potatoes, hard red winter wheat.

We LOVE pickled banana peppers and I do it the lazy way in the fridge: for 1 qt  of pickled peppers I use 2 c water, 1/3 to 1/2 c white wine vinegar/apple cider vinegar mix and 2 or so Tb sea salt. They’re ready in 4 days-ish. Clearly I don’t really have an actual recipe. I like them on my salads and Shane puts them on pizza and nachos. Alas…the vast and deep canyon between our eating styles….and he would love these if only I would make them – they do look amazing: Cheesy Stuffed Banana Peppers.

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

flap steak, philly steak, ground beef, stew beef, short ribs, cube steak, osso bucco, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones. We’ll be restocked on cuts next week.

Ground beef special this weekend – Buy 5 lbs, get 1 lb free and ***short ribs 20% off and BOGO bags of soup bones.

See you tomorrow! Come make fun of me while I freeze to death in the 70 degrees.

Market Stuff for August 17.

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow with:

Rosa Bianca Italian eggplant, watermelons,  sungold cherry tomatoes, sweet banana peppers, jalepenos, green bell peppers, carola and fingerling potatoes, cucumbers, hard red winter wheat.

I made this healthier eggplant parmesan in the instant pot (10 minutes!) and it was really good.  The eggplant was really creamy and tender. The Rosa Biancas don’t have the bitter taste that regular purple eggplants do and I prefer the texture. I used this sauce recipe – fast & easy, and much more delicious than jarred sauce. And the carolas are the perfect size for these Bacon Blue Cheeseburger Potato Skins 🙂

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

flap steak, philly steak, ground beef, stew beef, short ribs, cube steak, osso buccco, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones.

Market Stuff for August 3.

That is an adorable 25 year old pony nose that doesn’t look a day older than when I bought him 16 years ago. Don’t you just want to smooch it!!

That is a bomb-ass watermelon I cut today. I guess I should have opened with this one since I’m trying to sell them…you can see where my priorities are 🙂

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow.

I have the piel de sapo melons again, and watermelons.  They’re REALLY GOOD. A few tomatoes, nice big Carola baking potatoes and Red Thumb fingerlings, a few banana peppers, cucumbers; zephyr squash, lemon squash, hard red winter wheat.

I put 2 gallon bags of piel de sapo melons in the freezer for smoothies and I’m going to do the same with watermelon and cucumbers. I love them in smoothies and it’s so much tastier than grocery store fruit.

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

filet, sirloin steaks, flat iron, flap steak, philly steak, ground beef, stew beef, short ribs, cube steak, osso buccco, brisket, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones.

Last night lightning struck just a few feet away from where I was feeding the horses and set the grass on fire. It also burned up and exploded a bunch of stuff in our house and elsewhere all at the same time. Crazy. That’s the second time lightning has struck almost right at my feet while I was with the horses. Third time is the charm!

See you tomorrow 🙂

Market Stuff for July 27.

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow.

I have these piel de sapo melons – sweet, white flesh. Tomatoes, nice big Carola baking potatoes and Red Thumb fingerlings, loads  of cucumbers; zephyr squash, lemon squash, onions, hard red winter wheat.

This is my favorite refrigerator pickles recipe – no cooking! And the Carola potatoes make the BEST potato salad; I don’t care for mine to be drowned in mayo. This Simple French Style Potato Salad is similar to what I make, and I love to add chopped jalepenos and whatever other peppers I have and loads of red onion.

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

filet, ribeye, sirloin steaks, flat iron, flap steak, philly steak, ground beef, stew beef, short ribs, cube steak, osso buccco, brisket, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones.

Ground beef special this weekend – Buy 5 lbs, get 1 lb free and ***short ribs 30% off!****

Shane said we have 3 or 4 market size steers left. Someone has ordered a half, and we will be taking another one for processing soon. I think we’ll be saving another one of those for us to have in our freezer for next year because he sold all the calves so there is nothing left here for us to grow out. If you’re thinking about getting a bulk order in before we run out, let me know.

My sweet Pappy lamb had to be put down this week. His body got old way before his spirit was ready to go.  <3 <3 <3

We had so many fun times! He was the best lamb EVER.

I’ll see you tomorrow…

Market Stuff for July 20.

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow until maybe noon – it’s so hot!

I have tomatoes, nice big baking potatoes and Red Thumb fingerling potatoes, cucumbers, zephyr squash, onions, hard red winter wheat. I think the lambkin melons will be ready next week.

These garlic grilled tomatoes are delicious 🙂

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

filet, ribeye, NY Strip steaks, sirloin steaks, flat iron, skirt steaks,  flap steak, philly steak, stew beef, short ribs, cube steak, osso buccco, brisket, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones.

I had a great weekend off last week – I put about 10 quarts of tomatoes in the freezer and made a tomato pie. So good. It was hard to save some for Shane. Then we went to the beach!

See you tomorrow 🙂

Market Stuff for July 6.

I’m not sure if I’ll be at the market next week but I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow until 1 pm with:

tomatoes, Carola and Red Thumb fingerling potatoes, savoy, red, & green cabbage, onions, sunflowers, garlic, hard red winter wheat.

These are the BEST marinated tomatoes. I didn’t use as much oil or vinegar and used extra onions and garlic and stuff.

I’ll have our 100% grass fed & grass finished black Angus beef in these cuts:

filet, ribeye, NY Strip steaks, sirloin steaks, flat iron, flank and skirt steaks,  flap steak, philly steak, stew beef, short ribs, cube steak, osso buccco, brisket, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roast, boneless chuck roast, soup bones, hot dogs.

Ground beef special this weekend – Buy 5 lbs, get 1 lb free.

I knocked one of these babies out of the nest picking tomatoes (I didn’t see the nest) and when I put it back it opened it’s mouth for me to feed it <3

This was my corn field. As  you can see, no corn. After I planted corn I surrounded the field with a zillion sunflowers.

I have a great crop of sunflowers. No corn.

See you tomorrow!

I don’t have any photos. My plane got in this morning at 6:30. I’m a zombie. See you tomorrow 🙂
