The wind has been insane.

That happened 🙁

Shane hasn’t really said if it can be fixed. Luckily it’s not the house the tomatoes are in so we technically don’t have to fix it until fall.

He’s still working on wrapped bales for winter feed.

See you tomorrow <3

Market Stuff for April 14.

I’ve been getting inquiries about when I’ll have wheat again, here’s an update! That’s it right there, hard red winter wheat. Looks great.

It’s already time…

off he goes to rake hay. Reminds me of the fair coming to town 🙂

Those ferris wheelie things lower down to rake the hay into windrows.

The windrows are a continuous circle spiraling inward and I used to love to gallop them like a racetrack…until I saw that my trusty steed would somehow always poop on the actual hay row. Oops.

It’s not warm enough to get this dry, so it’s being baled wet and wrapped in plastic for this winter’s baleage, as we speak.

…meanwhile…

I couldn’t resist. It’s really running and I love that sound. Soon the creek will dry up for the summer and it’ll be hot as blazes. This is my window!!!!

This is also why I didn’t  pre-bunch much of my greens and I’ll probably be in the weeds tomorrow haha. I apologize in advance.

See ya tomorrow!

Market Stuff for April 7.

Planting sweet corn!

I’ll be at the  Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow til 1

I have some really pretty butter and bibb lettuce, spinach, LOADS of curly kale & chard, a little red kale and sweet potatoes.

One of my favorite dressings, especially for kale salad, is  just 3T each of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, the juice of half an orange, 1 1/2 T honey and 1/2 t sea salt.

We’re doing 20% off these cuts tomorrow: our 100% grass fed & grass finished, Animal Welfare Approved Angus stew beef, cube steak, brisket, all roasts, ribeyes and strips.

We also have osso bucco, skirt steak, the last of the beer brats, and the last of the andouille sausage, hot dogs (skinny and quarter pounder), sliced corned beef, and sliced pastrami made from our 100% grass fed Angus beef, no added nitrates or nitrites.

Ground beef special – Buy 5, Get 1 free.

Bulk pricing on our beef: quarters, halves and wholes – $3.50 lb hang weight plus the cost of processing.

Kellogg’s Breakfast tomatoes in 3/4″ soil blocks. Potting up into 4″ pots.

I started all my plants in soil blocks this year, to get away from using all that plastic. I used 2″ blocks for the onions and 3/4″ blocks for everything else, which will fit 60 plants to a flat instead of my usual 36.

I’ll have tomato plants for sale in a few weeks! Herbs and flowers too. And other stuff!

Finally, greener  pastures 🙂

See you tomorrow!

See ya tomorrow!

Market Stuff for March 24.

We finally got potatoes in the ground,  literally hours before the torrential downpours. Huckleberry Gold, German Butterball, and for extra early potatoes, Red Norland and Red Thumb fingerling – were supposed to go in a month ago, but they should still be ready long before the others. Still have Carolas coming in April.

I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow until 11 or so.

I have curly kale, chard, red kale, and sweet potatoes. I had a really craptastic sweet potato season last year, so we are on the last couple crates of them. Normally I would have sweet potatoes until August!

We are doing 20% off all of these cuts tomorrow:  our 100% grass fed & grass finished, Animal Welfare Approved Angus cube steak, brisket (8 lb size and 3 lb size), shoulder roast, eye of round roasts, and liver.

We also have philly steak, short ribs (almost gone), osso bucco, NY Strip, ribeyes (GAH you should see these new ribeyes!!), sirloin steak, filets, flank, skirt, and flat iron steaks, boneless chuck roast, sirloin tip roast, plus our beer brats, andouille sausage, hot dogs (skinny and quarter pounder), sliced corned beef, and sliced pastrami made from our 100% grass fed Angus beef, no added nitrates or nitrites.

Ground beef special – Buy 5, Get 1 free.

Bulk pricing on our beef: quarters, halves and wholes – $3.50 lb hang weight plus the cost of processing.

I added gypsum, boron and sulfur before we tilled. Actually Shane did it for me, probably because watching me struggle with the  Earthway Ev-n-spred is too painful.

Don’t take my face picture!

I hope to see you tomorrow 🙂

Market Stuff for March 17.

Hiya! I’ll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market tomorrow until 11 or so.

I have a little bit of greens and sweet potatoes. It doesn’t seem like anything has grown since I picked it last week, but Shane wanted me to come sell beef so I’ll be there. It’s too cold at night I guess, we’ve had 20s and 30s.

We are doing 20% off all of these cuts tomorrow:  our 100% grass fed & grass finished, Animal Welfare Approved Angus cube steak, brisket (8 lb size and 3 lb size), shoulder roast, rump roasts, eye of round roasts, and liver.

We also have philly steak, short ribs (almost gone), osso bucco, NY Strip, ribeyes (GAH you should see these new ribeyes!!), sirloin steak, filets, flank, skirt, and flat iron steaks, boneless chuck roast, plus our beer brats, andouille sausage, hot dogs (skinny and quarter pounder), sliced corned beef, and sliced pastrami made from our 100% grass fed Angus beef, no added nitrates or nitrites.

I only have pictures of our morning walks, because everything else is muddy since it rains several times a week, and the animals are shedding so they look mangey, and it’s too wet to get in the fields so it’s all weedy and nothing is getting planted, so here we are. Haha do you detect a TONE??

I’ll see you tomorrow 🙂

Lettuce is on deck in a couple weeks (dep on weather), then beets and carrots. I hope I planted orange carrots this time…I love the purple carrots, but purple soup is just not appealing.

We are still doing 20% off all of these cuts tomorrow:  our 100% grass fed & grass finished, Animal Welfare Approved Angus stew beef, cube steak, ribeyes, brisket (8 lb size and 3 lb size), shoulder roast, rump roasts, sirloin tip roast, eye of round roasts, and liver.

We are all stocked up on beef cuts, and also have short ribs, osso bucco, NY Strip, sirloin steak, filets, flank, skirt, and flat iron steaks, boneless chuck roast, plus our beer brats, andouille sausage, hot dogs (skinny and quarter pounder), sliced corned beef, and sliced pastrami made from our 100% grass fed Angus beef, no added nitrates or nitrites.

I haven’t been cooking much so I don’t have any new recipes to post. Mostly living off this most favorite ever kale salad with the curly kale – so good- these Honey and Herb Roasted Root Veggies (sans all the veggies except only sweet potatoes, garlic and onions haha) and fresh spring rolls , with the cabbages and carrots I’ve got hoarded away.

It’s actually not going to be freezing tomorrow, I hope to see you there 🙂

Market Stuff for February 17.

Well, spring is in the air, right??  A couple weeks ago I notice the frogs had thawed out, when I was outside at 3am and I heard them going bonkers. Why was I loitering outside at 3am? Hmmmmm. Mysterious.

Then that same week I noticed the horses were starting to shed their winter coats, and the last but WAY more important sign that spring is approaching quickly is that I was surprised to find I have a tan and my hair has new blond highlights. Just as I was asking myself in the mirror, GAH! Can it get any mousier??! 🙂

I hope to see you guys tomorrow!!
